Under 16's win Futsal competition.

Jay Catton23 Apr 2010 - 15:50

Our U16's won an international Futsal tournament which included 4 Australian national sides as well as Rhyl, Airbus and The New Saints academy teams.

It was a great evening enjoyed by all. The Nomads got off to a fine start in their first game of the evening, beating the Australian Vikings A team by four goals to nil.

Goals came from skipper Ryan Jones, Jamie Wynne and two for striker George Baxter. The Nomads then defeated the Australian Vikings B team in a similar score line winning by three goals to nil.

The Nomads passed the ball really well in this fixture, and a fantastic move consisting of nearly twenty passes was finished decisively by Scott Bainbridge.

George Baxter gained his third goal of the tournament, with the third and final goal coming from Andrew Hoxby.

This left Nomads confirmed to make it into the semi finals, with Rhyl still to play in the final group game.

In a very tight game Nomads, edged out Rhyl by three goals to two. The goals came from Shaun Tinsley with a great strike, George Baxter, and a superb finish and piece of skill from Jamie Wynne.

The Nomads then had a local derby game in the semi finals against Airbus. In a very tight match, Nomads edged out their local rivals by two goals to nil. Jordan Beck was the hero of the semi finals with two great strikes.

This left the Nomads with a final tie against The New Saints. Like the Nomads, TNS had won all their games in the group stage, and had beaten Rhyl in the semi finals by three goals to nil.

Nomads dominated in the early period creating some good chances. However, TNS were countering well, and were only kept at bay thanks to some top saves by goalkeeper Joshua Atkin.

Two goals came from Shaun Tinsley on the fifth and seventh minute mark. TNS scored in the final few seconds but it was too late to prevent Nomads from winning the final of the tournament.

A great evening of Futsal was enjoyed by all the eight teams who took part. A big well done to the Nomads side who played some great football and worked superbly as a team.

Also a big well done to all under 16 players who took part.

Photos will be updated on the weekend from the event.
