Consett shared 10 tries with their hosts Durham City - but it was the superior kicking of the home side which saw them edge an entertaining encounter.
The visitors were without their regular kicker Brandon Asher-Wood and it was the successful conversions from the home side which helped them to maximum points.
But Consett did return home with a bonus point to their name for their part in an exciting, free-flowing game of rugby which ended 39-34 in Durham's favour.
In fact, they drew first blood on five minutes when Aaron Harlow-Stephenson crossed for the first score of the afternoon. But Durham were ahead with two tries in seven minutes, both converted to open up a nine point lead.
A similar pattern was to emerge throughout the afternoon and was to prove significant, but stand-in kicker Michaile Van Wyk was successful with his next attempt as he converted his own try on 20 minutes.
The away side were back in front on 25 minutes when Richard Tetley crossed, but two converted tries from Durham before the break saw the teams go into the interval with City leading 28-17.
Van Wyk kicked his second conversion on 52 minutes after Jack Yarrall crossed, but Durham were to stretch their lead with two penalties and an unconverted try in the 76th minute.
Consett rallied and registered two further tries courtesy of Joe Kirkland and Dan Patchcott at the death, but the two unsuccessful kicks proved pivotal as Consett lost for the first time under new head coach Cameron Neild.
