Four yellow cards but five big points

Four yellow cards but five big points

David Coulter15 Feb 2025 - 23:36

Three wins from three for Consett's first team since Cameron Neild joined as head coach.

Consett's first team's excellent run of results continued as they defeated West Hartlepool 26-14 - even if they played the last half hour with fewer men.
The hosts extended their winning run since Cameron Neild was appointed head coach to three games, securing maximum points with a four-try victory.
There has been an increased level of performances in recent weeks and the home side came racing out the traps, Brandon Asher-Wood opening the scoring within two minutes and then converting his own try.
But they were pegged back by their determined guests, a converted try on 11 minutes levelling the score.
The pendulum swung back in Consett's favour and teenager Ethan Renwick made it 12-7 on 18 minutes.
While Asher-Wood was unable to convert on this occasion, he soon added a further seven points to his team's tally when he converted his own try for a second time.
The teams turned around with Consett leading 19-7, and that lead was extended on 50 minutes when Asher-Wood made it three successful conversions from four as Renwick got his second try of the afternoon.
But things threatened to turn sour just before the hour when Consett were reduced to 14 men for the first when Drew Davison was told to sit out for 10 minutes with the first yellow card of the day.
A minute after the hosts were restored to a full complement, Renwick was given his marching orders and George Brain, making a step up from the seconds, was sin binned 10 minutes later.
West Hartlepool capitalised with a second try of their own but it was in consolation as they trailed by 12 points with just two minutes left on the clock.
There was still time for Consett to receive a fourth card of the day, Asher-Wood yellow carded in the dying moments.
