Ex-Wales Under 21, Chester City, Shrewsbury Town, Crewe Alexandra and Morecambe defender Darren Moss has signed for Conwy Borough as Player Coach.

Darren Moss arrives as not just a big signing for Conwy Borough Football Club, but for the league as a whole. The 32 year old defender comes with a very impressive pedigree having played 334 Football League games over a 12 year professional career, scoring 15 goals.

Crewe Alexandra saw Moss as such a big talent that they paid Shrewsbury Town £170,000 for his signature.
Moss, who plays as centre half but can also be used as a right back or holding midfield, also represented his country at International level, playing 6 times for Wales Under 21`s.

Moss is currently working towards his UEFA B licence and becomes a valuable part of Manager Chris Herbert`s impressive coaching staff as player coach, working under Herbert and his assistant John Keegan.

He has already had Coaching/Management experience, as in January last season Moss became caretaker manager of Nantwich Town after former Northern Ireland International Jimmy Quinn departed - the Dabbers ended up finishing the season in a rich vein of form, after Moss turned things around.

Herbert is delighted with the signing of Darren Moss and he praised his attitude and love of the game, by saying:

"Ive been speaking to Darren for a while now, and even tried to sign him in January, but in the same week he got the caretaker manager job at Nantwich, so he was committed to that. But he Is a real pro, and has done everything the right way, and I was always going to try him again in the summer."

"Mossy will be influencial to the club, not just as a player but as a coach. He has more experience than anyone else at this level, and just like Nicky Ward who has also joined the coaching staff, they will help bring the younger players in the squad through and if the young lads can tap into that experience they will improve immensely. Darren is still a top player and its by no means him dropping down the leagues because his career is coming to a end, its simply one step back to take 2 forward, if everything goes to plan. Mossy still has at least 3-4 years left in him at the top level of Welsh football."

"His versatility is also key for us, he comes in as a centre half but he can play a number of positions. I am sure Darren will be a huge hit at the club, and it adds real competition for places which is what any team that wants to be successful has to have".

Moss was also delighted with his move to Conwy Borough and commented:
"Its a great new challenge for me and Chris has been first class in the things he put to me to get me here. Having spoken all summer about the plans to bring me in as player coach I felt It was the right time to start on the coaching ladder, and with the new signings and the already exciting young squad already there, its a very exciting opportunity for me."

"Chris has got me here to use my experience not to just help to win games but to also help develop the younger players as footballers, and I will try my best to do so."

"I just want to get involved now and I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the club".

Darren Moss will wear squad number 4 for the 2013/14 season.
