Football still on hold following Welsh Government announcement on Covid 19 alert level.

Everyone at the club had been hoping that at yesterday’s Covid 19 update the Welsh Government may have been inclined to reduce the alert level from 4 to 3. Had this happened then Sport Wales would have had the discretion to reinstate “elite” status to Tier 2 clubs so as to allow the reduced 15 match season to start in March.

Unfortunately with the ongoing uncertainty caused by the pandemic it was felt that there was limited scope for any change and therefore football remains on hold with a further review in three weeks time.

In the meantime Sport Wales are considering the implications of the impact of the Welsh Government announcement.

Our Media Officer caught up with Chairman Chris Wilton for his views and he commented:-

“The current situation is extremely frustrating for everyone concerned. Unfortunately, this is an incredibly difficult time and although communication from the Football Association of Wales has been pretty good the matter is out of their hands due to the current Covid legislation and the revocation of elite status for Tier 2 clubs.

The club committee have to give great credit to Manager Matty Jones, his staff and all the players who have been first class in trying to stay motivated and upbeat throughout.

I would also like to spare a thought for everyone involved with our Reserve Team and Junior Section who are also desperate to be able to play again.

Whenever football gets the green light they will be raring to go. Everyone at the club remains hopeful of positive news but as each day goes by the logistics of starting and completing the season seem to become more difficult.”
