Corby rugby club spurred on to impress possibly dying, but definitely hungover, superstar Kristian Naylor who was watching on from the sidelines. Corby took to the field for the first time this season in impressive form, against an experienced and physical Kettering 4ths side. With a mixture of new and experienced players, Corby took hold of the game early on, getting the first points on the board and they didn't look back! They continued to put pressure on Ketterings defensive line and broke through enough times to tally up 54 points by the full time whistle. However Corby didn't have it all our own way, Kettering's experience and physicality lead them to break through Corby's defence and put 17 points on the board by full time.
Impressive performances for all new comers who received help and guidance throughout the game from the experienced players in the Corby squad made for a joyful watch. Kettering had much more experience in terms of rugby and it will be a great learning curve for the lads. They gave Corby a run for their money in the breakdowns and showed good attacking flare at times, but Corby seemed determined not to let the blunders of last season come back to haunt them. They dug in and produced a 54-17 win. One of the clubs finest.
Ricky Egan (D.O.R.) said "that today was fantastic. It showed how hard the lads have been training and that it is paying off. It was like having sex for the very first time again, it was all over too quickly. I could of watched another 4.. 5 maybe even 6 more minutes of that game".
Paul Anderson (Head Coach) said "toady proved that not everyone in the team is a twot. People played hard and tackled well, just like we have been doing in training. It was nice to see the lads listening to me from the side lines as I orchestrated this win today. All praise be to me and Allah"
