So after 2 defeats on the spin we went into our FA Cup tie against Croydon with a few changes to the team and also the squad, a renewed confidence in training last week and going into the game showed in the early stages with us having lots of the ball and playing the better football. However with losing the first two games nerves where still showing a little and we conceded the first goal from a long throw, although their was a shout for a punch on Chris Kinnear, but it wasn’t given and we found ourselves 1—0 down. That lasted just a few minutes and RJ drew us level, after some good build up play and a finish inside the penalty area for his second goal in as many games. After some more good play from left to right Jamie Taylor swept the ball home from close range and we looked well in control of the game. The referee who was a little inconsistent throughout the game gave a very dubious decision, after a discussion with our technical area and the resulting free kick went through our wall (which was about as strong as a chocolate teapot) and we went in at half time 2 -2. Second half the same pattern continued with us having lots of the play and but for some great defending and goalkeeping we could have been out of sight well before we scored the winner. Good work from the continuously kicked Alfie May, resulted in a shot across goal and Tom Reardon was on hand to score his first goal in the Kent League after coming on as a sub mid way through the second half. An important win and a good performance sees us go through to face Slough in a weeks time away from home which will be another tough game against the Evo Stick title favourites but one we all relish.
This week we entertain Fisher FC who under Steve Firkins always try and play the right way and reports are they are very fit and young like ourselves so we should see a decent game of football on a great surface. We are missing several key members of the squad today with Rob Denness, Ryan Johnson and Lee Woodyard all away on holiday, but in comes Ritchie Stevens after his hat trick last week for the reserves , Adam Marsh who was working last weekend and Josh James who has come on a season long loan from Maidstone United, so we wish Josh all the best in his stay here and hopefully he’ll become another product of giving young players the opportunity at first team level at Corinthian FC. The lads have worked really hard in training this week and must be commended on the attitude towards doing so lets hope we take that into today’s game.
A quick note to wish Brad and Dave good luck in the Suburban League this season as their season starts this week. Some promising young lads coming through from there already and hopefully we’ll see a few more before the end of the season. And another note of a well done goes to Michael and Ian for their win against the Gillingham Academy on Wednesday night, where there was a great team performance and a few individuals to highlight were Jack Mahoney, Dan Bent who is in the squad with us today and Ross Murphy who has scored two great goals in three games so far from midfield so good luck to those guys on Tuesday in their first Ryman League game.
