Managers Programme Notes:
Good afternoon and welcome to Gay Dawn Farm for a tough looking fixture against Deal Town in the Kent Cup. Derek Hares and Steve King have built up a squad with a great mixture of youth and experience and are one of the teams I fully expect to be competing in the upper echelons of the league come the end of the season. I would like to extend my welcome to all from Deal Town and hope you enjoy your short stay with us this afternoon. Deal are a team that we seem to face each year in the cup and it is certainly one of the harder fixtures we could have got at this stage, but training was good on Thursday and we are coming off the back of three good wins, so confidence is certainly high at the moment and we will be working incredibly hard to ensure we keep this little bit of momentum we have going.

Tuesday night saw us comfortably beat Stansfeld in the league cup by 6 goals to 1. The quality of the goals were exceptional and topped off by goal of the night from Luke Tanner, who scored an outrageous volley from 40 yards. It was bitterly disappointing to concede a goal in manner that we did, as that spoilt the night slightly. The positives were clearly the goals and the standard of goals we scored, it is pleasing that Oscar is regularly finding the back of the net at the moment and his performances levels continue to be very high. Andres also chipped in with two high quality goals and his returns of goals and assists recently are much improved. It was also good to give Merrick Simms his first start and he got through 90 minutes without any issues. Ryan Sawyer made his first appearance in a couple of years, having played 90 for the reserves the previous Saturday and it was pleasing to get Jack Mahoney through 90 minutes without any issues and he scored a cracker of a free kick right on the stroke of half time to completely take the game away from the visitors. Kam also scored again to make it 3 in 3, which again is great to see him hit form again.

Another positive from Tuesday night was that we were able to rest / rotate 5 regular first team players, whilst enabling boys that haven’t had as many minutes to get on the pitch and prove why they should be starting each week. We are incredibly lucky to have a talented 22 man squad and it is down to us as a management team to efficiently manage the squad to ensure players are fully fit and able to perform the roles expected. Having a large squad ready to compete with each other and for each other will only stand us in good stead as we move forward and try to achieve this seasons objectives. We have managed to add Luke Carey to the squad which will also give us a boost in the forward department and provide yet more competition for places. Luke is incredibly talented but has been without a club since leaving Charlton in the summer and needs to get back to playing regularly and scoring goals. I have wanted Luke to sign for a long time, so now that is over the line, I really believe we are in a very good place with the squad.

Following this afternoon’s game, we are due to face Greenwich Borough at home on Tuesday night in what will be another tough fixture. Greenwich caused us numerous problems in the away fixture earlier this season and I am surprised they do not have more points on the board than what they currently have. Today will again see us make a few changes to the starting XI and squad with half an eye on Tuesday night, but the changes we make, I truly believe are more than good enough to help us progress to the next round and that is certainly the objective of the afternoon, regardless of the team we put out, as long as we work hard and stick to the game plan.
