Managers Programme Notes:
Good afternoon to everyone in attendance at The Farm for today’s exciting FA Vase Quarter Final. Following last week’s disappointing postponement, it will be good to get this fixture played today. I would like to offer a warm welcome to Leighton Town managers Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson, their management team, players and supporters, I hope you enjoy your short stay at our little club this afternoon.

Leighton come into today’s game having beaten one of the favourites in the last round, Bradford Town. They have also only lost once in the past three and a bit months and are very quickly climbing the league table after a poor start to the season. Should Leighton win their games in hand, they will be in the top three, so I hope that shows what a good side Leighton are and how well we are going to have to play today to stand a chance of progressing to the semi-finals.

Having said what good form Leighton are in, which is very true, it must be said that we also come into the match in very similar good form. We last tasted defeat in the league at the back end of October and the only blemish since then was the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Erith Town in the SCEFL Cup. We continued our good run of results, with a record breaking 10-0 win on Tuesday night vs Erith and Belvedere. I thought the way the team / squad / management handled themselves on Tuesday was exemplary and despite rattling in the goals through a number of different areas of the pitch, we remained professional throughout. I am sure Erith will soon turn the corner, but we got through what on paper was potentially a very tough match against a brand new side, so to score the number of goals we did, keep a clean sheet and not pick up any injuries were the aspects that pleased me most.

The reserves have also been on a good run of form in 2020 and have picked up two great victories this week, a 6-1 away win vs Tring in the league, was followed up with a professional 2-0 win last Tuesday night in the Suburban League Cup against Tunbridge Wells. I am pleased that some of the players that have been on the fringes of the first team squad, have played and acquitted themselves very well. Ross scored a hat trick against Tring, with Merrick Simms and Kam Gyeabour also on the score sheet. Also last week, Kam helped himself to another goal, to take his tally to 3 goals in 3 games for the reserves, we also used this opportunity to get a number of players valuable minutes and the reports I have had back have all been really positive. The reserves also played Lingfield on Thursday evening and I am hopeful that they picked up the three valuable points to push them away from the bottom of the table.

The FA Vase is a great competition, I have always said that and once you reach the Quarter Final stage, the prospect of reaching the final is a little bit more realistic. There are sure to be nerves and excitement in equal measure from both sets of players today and with a vocal support from both teams, I am sure we are in for a great afternoon. I truly hope you enjoy the game and I can promise that our players will be giving absolutely everything for you this afternoon as we strive to secure a place in the last 4 of a national competition for the first time in the clubs history.
