Managers Programme notes:
Good evening all and welcome back to GDF for yet another massive match in our current season. Tonight we face a very much in form Chatham Town, who are currently one place above us in the table, so yet again, tonight is going to be a tough game, but one we are confident of extending our also current good run of form. I would like to welcome manager Scott Lindsay, his management team, players and supporters from Chatham and hope you enjoy your short stay with us this evening.
It would be remiss of me to start my notes anywhere else than Saturday's incredible victory over Leighton Town. Leighton are without doubt the best side we have played this season in my opinion, so to come away with a victory, is testament to how hard the players worked on the day and prior to that as well. We certainly did not have it all our own way on Saturday and at 3-2 down with 25 minutes remaining there was a period of five minutes where we were very much on the ropes, however, we somehow managed to weather that storm and then from pretty much out of nowhere a sublime set piece delivery from Oscar and flicked header from captain Jack Bath scores levelled and from that point, I felt there was only going to be one winner - As a minimum the tide of momentum had changed and the majority of the game was played in the Leighton half.
The winner coming in the 92nd minute from Eman sparked scenes of wild jubilation and an out pouring of emotion from pretty much everyone associated with the club. It is difficult to say whether we deserved to win on the day, as it was very much a topsy turvy game, but what I do know is that the boys deserved their slice of luck on the day for their efforts and endeavours so far this season. We scored the best goal of the game with Jack Billings rounding the keeper calmly to open the scoring and Aiden produced the most ridiculous save at 2-2 to keep the scores level, so when you have those bits of quality, I think we maybe deserved to progress on the way. Attention in the Vase now turns to the double leg semi final against Northern League powerhouses Hebburn Town. The away leg is set to be a sell out with around 3000 people expect to attend, we will of course not get that many at home, but it would be good to again break our current attendance record.
Attention from the next 7 days though turns very much to the bread and butter of our season with three consecutive home matches. As I have said all along, the full strength of the squad will be needed and it is times like this that it is so evident that we need a competitive squad. We have a points target that we have set the boys and should we achieve that, we will be in a very good place come the FA Vase fixtures. Chatham are a very talented side and like I mentioned earlier are bang in form and will be gunning for revenge no doubt for us knocking them out the FA Vase earlier in the season, something we will need to guard against if we are secure a positive result this evening.
I hope you enjoy the match,
Michael
