Two top 6 sides meet at Sphinx Drive on Wednesday evening and this is one not to be missed. Coventry Sphinx have started their league season well and have suffered just one defeat in their opening seven league fixtures. Heanor Town have also got off to an excellent start and they sit just one point ahead of Sphinx going into Wednesday night’s match.
In their last league fixture Sphinx took a well earned point away at Rugby Town and prior to that they beat a good Sporting Khalsa side 3-1 at Sphinx Drive with goals from Ryan Harkin (2) and Louis Guest. Harkin has been the chief goal threat for Coventry Sphinx with six goals already but recently returned Jamie Towers and new striker Simeon Townsend both got off the mark on Saturday. They will be looking to put the disappointment of their FA Vase exit behind them, as will Heanor Town who also exited the competition at the weekend.
Heanor began their league season with defeat at Worcester City but they responded superbly to that setback by winning their next five league games which included the noticeable scalps of Shepshed Dynamo and Rugby Town. That run was ended by defeat at AFC Wulfrunians on the 2nd September. Jamie Sleigh and Elliott Reeves have been their main source of goals so watch out for them at Sphinx Drive
