Swifts up on Saturday

Competition: Midland Football League Premier Division

Date: Saturday 20th January

PREVIEW:
Coventry Sphinx are back in action at Sphinx Drive on Saturday and this time its Stourport Swifts providing the opposition. Last weekend Coventry Sphinx battled hard to earn the three points against Loughborough University and Stourport are expected to be equally tough opposition. Stourport are through to the last 16 of the FA Vase which proves they are capable of beating anyone on their day.
COVENTRY SPHINX: Sphinx extended their unbeaten league run to 12 games with victory last weekend but they had to work hard for it against a lively University team. That win was also a 7th consecutive home league win for Sphinx. Ryan Harkin leads the Sphinx goal scoring with 18 goals to his name. He has been well supported by Jamie Towers who has a strike rate of 1 goal every 2 games. Defender Louis Guest has popped up with 6 goals and midfielder Callum Woodward has 6 goals too. Charlie Faulkner is contributing goals too with 4 goals in his last 8 games.
THE OPPOSITION: The FA Vase run of Stourport has meant they have played just five league games since early November. They have been in great form in the cup competitions but they are without a win in the league in their last four games. They have had a tough run of fixtures against top half sides and have fallen to defeat against Worcester (4-1), Shepshed (6-1), Highgate Utd (3-2) and Bromsgrove (3-1). Their last league win was in early November with a 1-0 away win at Lye Town. Those league matches have been punctuated with FA Vase successes that have taken them into the last 16 and three wins away from an appearance at Wembley. Stourport suffered a blow during the week when they lost their top scorer Aaron Lloyd who made the move up to Alvechurch. They have also lost Captain Sam Beasley who has moved on to Rugby Town.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: The two sides shared plenty of goals in the two league fixtures last season with both matches ending in away wins. They met at Sphinx Drive towards the end of the season with Stourport taking a 3-1 win. The match at Walshes Meadow was a memorable win for Sphinx with Darren Eggleton scoring a 93rd minute winner to take a 3-2 win.
