On Sunday 19th March, Dave Bull took his Coventry Sphinx Under 16’s just across the Coventry border to the Bedworth Oval for the Bedworth Nursing Cup Final and returned to Sphinx Drive with the Trophy after a 2-0 win against Coundon Court. A thrilling contest between two well match sides was settled by goals from Bradley West and Owen Gorman.

There was a good crowd in Bedworth for this final and there were a significant number of Sphinx people who had travelled to support their Under 16’s. A strong breeze threatened to have an impact on the game but the new 3G surface provided an ideal pitch to play on. Sphinx got the crucial opening goal after 19 minutes with Bradley West on target and they went into the break still holding a one goal lead. Coundon Court came back out looking determined to get back in the game but the Sphinx defence was standing firm. With the clock ticking down and Coundon Court taking more risks, the game opened up and Sphinx took full advantage with Owen Gorman scoring the second goal late on which sparked scenes of jubilation from the Sphinx players, management and supporters. Sphinx manager Dave Bull sprinted half the length of the pitch which highlighted just how much this meant to him and his team.

The final was played in a great spirit and there was some good football on display from both sides. Sphinx Under 16’s were the winners of the 2017 Bedworth Nursing Cup and the squad returned to Sphinx Drive with the trophy and to begin the celebrations.
