First point of the season earned ...

CPD Glantraeth hosted Llanystwmdwy in today’s Gwynedd League fixture at Cae Glantraeth. After two disappointing results the club were looking to build on the performances as the side now begins to take shape.

First Half
Llanystwmdwy won the toss and decided to play with the wind in the first half. CPD Glantraeth started the game well and showed more confidence on the ball. In the 8th minute Cian Evans found himself in space but fired just wide. Llanystwmdwy began to settle and in the 11th minute found themselves through 1v1 but fired just wide. Josh Radin was able to break but fired his long range effort wide in the 14th minute. Llanystwmdwy had some long range efforts without ever troubling the keeper. I’m the 21st minute Cian Evans shot just wide with a long range effort. The game was scrappy and neither team were able to have sustained possession. In the 34th minute a piece of clever play led to Cian Evans being fouled in the box resulting in a penalty to Glantraeth. Dillon Roberts stepped up to fire home and put CPD Glantraeth 1-0 up. CPD Glantraeth ended the first half well and looked assured.

Second Half
CPD Glantraeth started the second half well and created an early chance with Iwan kirkham heading over from close range. Llanystwmdwy striker found himself going down in the box leading to a soft penalty which was converted to make it 1-1 in the 49th minute. CPD Glantraeth players frustration from the award of the penalty saw Cian Evans booked in the 52nd minute. Iwan Jones was struggling with a slight injury and was replaced by Corben Renton in the 58th minute. The effects of Thursday nights game were beginning to show as Llanystwmdwy found themselves breaking down the wing with the cross been turned in for 2-1 In the 59th minute. CPD Glantraeth were forced into a second change when Tomos Williams was replaced by Morgan Rowlands I’m the 62 minute. CPD Glantraeth continued to create chances as Cian Evans square ball was turned over from close range by Josh Radin. Again In the 72nd minute Josh Radin found himself in space in front of goal but shot wide. When Adam Taylor was fouled the Llanystwmdwy striker reacted badly and kicked out and led to a red card. Again CPD Glantraeth creates chances with Corben Renton and Morgan Rowlands forcing saves from the keeper. But, it was Llanystwmdwy we’re the ones who got the next goal taking advantage of some sloppy play and finishing 1v1 to make it 3-1. In fairness this did not dampen spirits and the young side produced a strong finish. With Josh Radin struggling he was replaced by Colin Staines. Heading in to the 90th minute CPD Glantraeth forced a corner which was turned in by Cian Evans at the back post to make it 3-2. With that and Glantraeth hunted back the ball straight from the kick off and won a foul in the Llanystwmdwy half. The ball was knocked in by Morgan Rowlands and headed home by Corben Renton with the last kick of the game.

It was a hard earned point for CPD Glantraeth and now we look forward to Monday’s fixture away to Llannerchymedd.
