Dave Jones must of been chocking on his corn flakes this morning when he heard of
Llanystumdwy first defeat since September.
Felin would have to travel to Llan missing some of their first team regulars Aled Pob, Trystan Dafydd and Penbiws, all thanks to match bans and injuries. On the other hand Daniel Hughes made his first start since November after recovering from a knee injury.
Pitch conditions weren't the best and it became clear why so many teams struggle when making the trip to Dwyfor Park. The game started quite flat for both teams - within 10 minutes I'd lost count of the amount of fouls that had been committed on Tom Bach. But despite all the free-kicks, Llanystumdwy back four defending the set-pieces well.
20 minutes in and Felin came close, a Martin Hughes free-kick clipping the outskirt of the post. Minutest later and a Gruff John cross was almost converted, this time Matthew Hughes blasting his volley wide.
Despite one clear chance Llan caused Rhys Eds no bother in goal this was mainly down to Felins frontmen and midfield doing a great job in starving Llans strikers of the ball.
Second half and Felin had the task of now defending against the wind. 6 minutes in and Felin finally broke the deadlock. A poorly cleared corner landed at the left boot of Sion Griffiths, his shot somehow finding it's way through dozens of bodies into the bottom corner.
Felin almost doubled their lead within minutes, Carwyn Dafydd through on goal only to be dump-tackled on the edge of the box by Llans prop - Felin feeling they were hard done by, the referee lacking conviction and deeming the foul only worthy of a yellow but without the 10 minute sin-bin.
Felin were soon under the cosh, Llanystumdwy applying the pressure with corner after corner. But despite Felins efforts to keep a clean sheet Llan soon levelled - some sloppy defending allowed a free head in the box.
Moments late and Felin regained their lead. A Sion Griffiths free-kick from the edge of the box took a massive deflected which caught the home keeper off guard. Minutes from time and some great counter football saw Felin get a third - despite Iwan Bonc being onside the ref disagreed and disallowed his effort.
Full time and a great result for the away team. It's vital we keep this momentum going and we continue with our mid-week prepareational work starting this Monday.
