Booth strikes again. Megan Booth continued her goal scoring form against Birkenhead

Crewe Alex ladies went five points clear at the top of the league on Sunday after dispatching Birkenhead 4-1, in a largely one sided game that should have seen more goals.

The first team are now undefeated since the end of November when they narrowly lost out to Blackpool Wren Rovers.

On this current run of form they have beaten Northwich, Blackpool Ladies, Preston North End, Blackburn Community (in the fog), and Birkenhead.

This season has had its challenges with plenty of injuries, however with players being pushed up from U21/Dev Squad the club has been able to still compete. First team players like Megan Booth, Leanne Derry, Michelle Saunders, and the skipper Katie Nuttall have been putting in impressive performances, knowing that the group around them has changed most weeks.

Players stepping up from the U21's find the pace of football faster and have had to learn quickly, and have adapted well. The continuing challenge is cutting out simple errors, and over the past two months the trend is downwards, while a positive output is an improvement in quality. Over the past two months a combination of gritty defending and free flowing attacking football has got the ladies the results they deserve.

With five leagues games left, and serious competition ahead, the ladies know they have to continue working hard to keep their promotion aspirations alive.
