Crooklands Casuals FC 1 Askam United FC 2

Cassies out worked by Askam

Cassies took the lead on 6 minutes when Dave Goude produced a fine through ball for Kieren Clark and the youngster finished with aplomb.

In a keenly contested game with neither side dominating it was Askam who equalised on 32 minutes when Mike Thompson headed in following a dangerous Steele free kick.

Kieren Clark had another run on goal and was somehow thwarted by the Askam keeper.

The 1-1 half time score line was a fair reflection of the game.

Early in the second half Askam took the lead from another set piece when Dec Baines headed in from a corner.

As the game wore on Crooklands threatened to equalise but Askam held out. Both sides had penalty appeals turned down as they battled for supremacy.

It was a fiercely competitive game with Askam looking a bit more hungry than Crooklands and their collective work ethic was enough to earn them 3 points.

Cassies will need to defend set pieces better in the future and get up to speed.
