Crooklands Casuals FC have been devastated at the news that our reserve team manager Greg Unsworth passed away this week.
Life has dealt the cruelest of blows to the nicest person you could ever wish to meet. He fought cancer with incredible courage and was an absolute inspiration during his battle.
Despite receiving his shocking diagnosis in May, he continued to manage the reserves, many a team being selected from his hospital bed. He was so determined to carry on.
Greg was 28 and a devoted husband to Sarah and daddy to Keira.
The players discussed whether to play on Saturday at training this week and agreed unanimously for the games to go ahead. We all felt Greg would have wanted it this way and wouldn't have wanted any fuss. We are even more determined to get 6 points for him this weekend.
It's going to be a very emotional day on Saturday as both teams pay their respects to Greg. A minutes silence will be held by both senior teams and the whole of the Furness Premier League. Sarah and Keira are hoping to attend the reserves game at Longlands.
At the club we have a number of boys who played under Greg from the age of 7 at Dalton Juniors. In respect to this we have selected them to play in the reserves some of whom would normally be in the first team.
Greg was just a fabulous human being and didn't deserve this. Everyone at our club will miss him so much.
Rest in Peace Greg
