Crooklands performed admirably against one of the better sides in the league.

The first half was fairly even with Fulwood having more possession but with a hard working Cassies side breaking dangerously on several occasions.

Cassies must have been disappointed when George Pennington headed in unchallenged from close range from a corner after 30 minutes.

Crooklands were level within 2 minutes when some opportunist pressing from Mansergh resulted in a gift from a Fulwood defender. He still had a bit to do as he beat the defender, rounded the goalkeeper and side footed home.

The score remained 1-1 at half time.

Fulwood, inspired by Mitch Newsham, dominated the second half as Crooklands tired and Sam Nightingale put Fulwood ahead on 65 minutes with a fine strike. The same player finished the game off in the 81st minute from close range.

In a great all round team effort Ross Coulson, Mike Hargreaves and Jacob Sweeting were in top form in the defence, while Callum Caldwell shone again in front of the back four and Mathew Bateman’s work rate was impressive on his debut.

Two more sixteen year olds, Louis Jones and Matthew Pearson made their debuts and 43 year old Lee Andrews made his final appearance before emigrating to New Zealand.
