The Keys returned from Brigg with three points and their best result away from home in just over a year. Their opponents, Queensway, began the season with two big wins but this was a fourth consecutive defeat and a result which put the Scunthorpe club’s goal difference into the red.

The visitors edged in front in the seventh minute when Shay Barron curled a free kick over Queensway’s defensive wall and under the crossbar after Jack Martinson had been fouled on the edge of the penalty area. Martinson would double the advantage six minutes later from around the same spot and with a goal just as spectacular – a curling right-footed shot into the top corner of Ryan Murray’s goal.

Hopes that Crowle would run away with the game were held in check just three minutes later when the home side scored its first goal on native turf since September through Harry Mee who bundled the ball home at the back post when he met Jonny Potts’ cross from the left. Chances came and went at both ends of the field; Barron and Martinson both came close to a second goal while Charlie Broomfield and Aaron Smith both put the ball narrowly wide from tight angles on either side of the Queensway goal.

Martinson put the ball just beyond the reach of Murray from the edge of the penalty area again to put Crowle three-one up with the last kick of the half and when the Keys furthered their lead four minutes after the break, the game seemed to be theirs; Jamie Goodhand’s first goal for the club was entirely down to the creative midfielder who intercepted a misguided pass out of Queensway’s defence before advancing towards the goal and lifting a shot past Murray.

A lapse in the Crowle defence gave the home team a glimmer of hope just before the hour when a left-wing corner from Ryan Boreham evaded everyone in the crowded six-yard box on its way inside the far post to make the score four-two. While both goalkeepers were called into action in the following minutes, neither was stretched to his limit and the score didn’t advance until twelve minutes before full time when Goodhand threaded a pass through the home defence to Barron who rolled the ball past Murray for his tenth goal of the season.
