Croydon Rugby Football Club (CRFC)
History of Croydon
The Club was started in 1956 by a mixture of players from Rugby playing schools and those who had never played before to form Shirley Wanderers RFC. After seven years as a wandering side, CRFC opened its clubhouse on the present site in 1963 leasing three pitches from the City of London Corporation. Since this time the club has overcome many a turbulent season, overcoming challenges both on and off the pitch. Currently, CRFC run two senior sides both competing in the Surrey Leagues.
Junior Rugby
The 2007/08 season saw the U13, U15 and U17 age groups steadily expanding and successfully competing strongly in their league and other competitions. An enthusiastic group of boys and girls in the 8-12 age group receive training in basic rugby skills and tag rugby every Sunday morning. The U17 team and coaches are visiting The Hague in Holland over Easter thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Jack Petchey Charitable Foundation.
