This quarter final tie was played at a fast and furious pace but the first real save of the match was made by home keeper Stark in the 19th minute when McAllister skipped passed a couple of defenders before slipping the ball into the path of McBain whose first time shot was palmed away for a corner. McKimmie then blasted high and at the other end McCrut headed just over. Wilson then made a great last ditch tackle to deny Greig when the winger was though on goal. Youngson sent a terrific long ball into the path of McKimmie who placed the ball wide of the keeper but also the post. Wilson's powerful shot was deflected wide then Brown saw his header flash across the home goal. Farquhar was then quick off his line to dive at the feet of Greig. Just on half time Farquhar punched a corner away and after the Culter defence failed to clear there lines the ball landed to Greig 20 yards out whose volley crashed off the crossbar via the fingertips of Farquhar.

McCrut made his way into the away box but his parting shot was saved by the legs of Farquhar. Then Stewart crossed for the inrushing Gray to smash another effort off the legs of Farquhar. McCrut was left in acres of space but placed his header well wide of the goal. On 82 minutes McKimmie picked up the ball 20 yards and smashed a terrific effort over the keeper but Allan was on the line and stopped the ball with his hand. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty and show Allan the red card. Up stepped McKimmie only to see his well struck penalty saved by Stark. Ten man Dee went straight up the park and Farquhar made another smart save to deny Hunter. But on the 90th minute Dee were reduced to nine men when Turnball received a second booking and also received a red card. There was still time for Farquhar to make another one handed save from Stewart's 20 yarder to send the game to a penalty shoot out.
