Three penalties, two red cards, a penalty shootout and another Jekyll and Hyde performance saw Culter advance in the North Regional Cup.
Culter went in front in the 12th minute. Keith HORNE latched on to a Stewart pass and his low 20 yard shot flew into the net. The home side should have equalised straight from the restart but Ramsey blasted the ball over the bar from a great position. Horne shot over then Gordon skipped past the home keeper only to roll the ball past the post from a wide angle. It was all square on the 27th minute. A skirmish in the box finished with Shaun BUTCHER on hand to fire a low shot into the corner of the net. Gordon headed over a Smyth cross then Clark saw his 25 yarder pushed away but Culter were back in front on 36 minutes. Gary McNAMEE shot from the edge of the box deceived the keeper and found the net.
HT 1-2
Butcher raced clear of the away defence and should have scored but Buchanan and Dlugonski combined to clear the danger. Gordon was denied a penalty when he was felled in the box then Buchanan dived to save a low shot from Butcher. Longside had a goal chalked off for hand ball before the feet of Buchanan came to Culter’s rescue as he again saved from Butcher. Horne turned his marker before curling a shot just round the post before the home keeper produced the save of the match in the 73rd minute. Ben McGregor went on a mazy and his cross found Horne whose volley produced a great one handed save from the keeper. Ramsey was left in space at the back post and his header bounced back off the crossbar but the ball was thumped up the park by Smyth but as Anderson chased after the ball he was pushed in the back. The referee pointed to the penalty spot and sent off the home centre half for a second yellow card. Horne’s penalty was pushed away by the home keeper. Ramsey hit the away post with a header but as the ball was cleared the referee stopped play and sent off Ben McGregor for an off the ball incident and pointed again to the penalty spot. Jamie RAMSEY stepped up to level the scores from 12 yards. The home side had a great chance to win the match in the 88th minute when the referee again pointed to the penalty spot but this time Buchanan guessed the right way to produce a great save to deny Ramsey. Anderson had the last chance of the match, firing the ball into the side netting.
