Cults suffered a second consecutive away loss but put in a defiant display in the field to pick up some vital losing bonus points.
Without a host of key players unavailable, Cults were down to the bare bones and could only line up with 10, which would be further reduced to 9 when it came to the 2nd innings.
Cults started well with the bat, the opening partnership reaching 48 before Syed fell to a full toss that he could only hit upwards which was taken by mid off. Pinch hitter Ali was sent in and had the desired effect straightaway crunching two 4's and a massive 6 in his first few balls. At the other end Abbasi was getting bogged down and began to feel the pressure, an uncharacteristic swipe across the line was his downfall as he was bowled by Palaniyandi.
This is where the wheels came off for Cults going from 72-1 to 74-5 in a flash. Some of the shot selections questionable to say the least given the match situation. Captain Ajazi and Bashir attempted a slow rebuild but it never got off the ground. Bashir bowled and then Ajazi chipping to mid off. Cults now 100-7. Gundra and Shehman looked like a partnership that could rescue something for Cults but Gundra was run out off a direct hit from Challa. The inning was wrapped up when Shehman was caught looking for a big hit. 125 was the final score.
Cults knew the only salvation from the match would be picking up as many wickets as possible for bonus points. But it didn't look very likely in the opening spell. Mohan and Kache putting on 59 for the opening partnership for Knightriders. After the fall of the first wicket, Cults were able to put more pressure on the batsman and it paid off, Tahir picking up 4-44 of his 8 overs. Shehman and Gundra picking up one a piece. Knightriders reaching the 126 required 6 down.
In the end, Cults did well to pick up as many wickets as they did, especially with only 9 in the field. 12 bonus points were achieved which given the circumstances was a good return. And with the league table so tight between 5th and 9th, every point will be crucial from now until the end of the season.
Next up for Cults is a trip to Countesswells to play Gordonians.
