James Jepson joins Daventry Town

James Jepson joins Daventry Town

JIM DAVIS9 Jul 2014 - 07:34

Daventry Town have signed James Jepson from Calor League rivals Kettering Town. Daventry fought off interest from Rugby Town to secure his signature.

The Poppies signed Jepson from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South side Gresley FC in October 2013.
Jepson joined the Gresley from Hucknall Town in October 2011 and was part of the Midland Alliance title-winning side. The 2010/11 season saw him play for Gedling Town, Rainworth Miners Welfare and then Hucknall Town before joining Gresley.
In February 2013 he left to join eventual league winners King`s Lynn Town but returned to Gresley later that season. The former Notts County youth player has also had spells with Lincoln City, AFC Sutton Town, Wollaton FC, Southwell City and Australian clubs Sorrento FC and Morley Winmills SC.
Amongst Jepson's achievements some six years ago he took on the role of player-manager at Gedling Town until a cruciate ligament injury and work commitments forced him to hand over the reins to his father.
Jepson played for the Poppies in last season’s play-off final 3-2 defeat to Slough Town and Daventry Towns 1-0 semi- final defeat.

Daventry Town record goal scorer Tommy Berwick has also signed for the club for another season, alongside Martin Hutchcox who also returns to is old club.

Supporters of Daventry Town know Tommy Berwick is a prolific goal scorer and needs no introduction, having made his name with the Town early in his career, scoring 52 goals when we romped away with the United Counties League Championship in 2009/10.
Last summer Tommy moved to Corby Town in June 2013, coming back to Daventry Town with his new club in the FA Trophy in October.
With the score goalless, the deadlock was broken by Tommy ` Berwick, with a sweet strike from the edge of the area.
Tommy left Corby and moved on to Hemel Hempstead briefly in December 2013. Tommy then went on to Stourbridge Town in January 2014, before returning to Daventry for the third time!

Martin Hutchcox has also rejoined Daventry Town after an absence of three years!
Hutchcox left Daventry in 2011 to join Banbury United. Martin has played for Evesham United, Banbury United, Woodford United, Daventry Town, Racing Club Warwick, Stratford Town, Southam United and Bedworth United.
Martin said, `It has been a few years since I was first here. `I am a bit older now and a little greyer but am delighted to have signed for Daventry Town. I am looking forward to the season to start now!

Footnote: James has now left the club and looks likely to sign for Rugby Town!
