Town rested Kyle Cartwright, Guy Sanders, Jamie Gould, Mykel Beckley, Scott Cross and Ross Oulton but welcomed Nat Liburd and Gary Moran back from injury.
Brackley Town had won this competition for the last two years so did not want to give up their crown lightly, despite fielding a youthful side, but still a very strong team, Brackley played the game in the true spirit of the competition and a competitive edge was evident throughout the tie.
Daventry Town Manager Darran Foster said, ` I was very pleased with the performance, against a much changed but still very strong Brackley team we gave a very good account of ourselves. With the hosts fielding no less than eight players of Conference experience, I feel that we did ourselves justice in a very tight game.
Ollie Stanbridge made his debut today and we hope to have his services tied up for the weekend. It was a very good workout for a much changed Daventry outfit and to come away with a win just proves that we have some decent strength in depth at the club`
The game went into extra time and ex Crawley Town striker Trevor McCreadie, scored in the ninety first minute to give Daventry Town victory in the first of two games this week and progression into the semi - final of the competition, it was Brackleys first defeat in the competition since 2010!
New signing Danny Edmunds impressed up front alongside Trevor McCreadie and goalkeeper Richard Morris had a solid game throughout, thwarting several Brackley attempts on goal. Town almost snatched the game in the last few minutes of normal time, but the ball was cleared off the line!
Daventry will not find out who they will play in the semi – final for another two weeks after which the other three ties are played, Kettering Town, Peterborough Northern Star, Desborough Town, Corby Stewart & Lloyds, Wellingborough Town and Irchester United will be playing to secure the other three places!
Daventry and Brackley meet again on Saturday in the FA Cup, both clubs will be desperate to make further progress in this competition, a good home tie in the next round with a large crowd, could bring in much needed income, particularly at cash strapped Daventry Town.
