Dearne Valley Bulldogs are now recruiting young players for upcoming summer season starting in March . All age groups are looking for new players .

HARD to get kids playing rugby league in south Yorkshire, but Dearne Valley
Bulldogs are doing all they can to make their club something the community can be proud of.
The notorious lack of interest in the ‘greatest game’ in our region is a talking point in areas where it’s popular. Yet the club based in
Bolton-upon-dearne have recently set up a junior section and are recruiting well ahead of the new campaign.
Club chairman Duncan Henderson explains: “We only started the junior section 2 year ago and three hundred flyers put up locally along with newspaper advertising. We have up to 100 kids training weekly,
“We’ve split the kids up into age groups 4 to 6 yrs pup group,u8s,u9s,u10s,u11s,u13s ,u14s & u16s plus girls of all ages to join a girls rugby team.
The club based at Ings Lane sports and social club on Vancouver Drive, have earned themselves an excellent reputation within the community since their formation ten years ago.
Initiatives such as clearing snow for the elderly, cleaning up the local church and arranging fund raisers for sick children and the British legion contributed to them winning a community award in 2010 and more work will be done with the help of the juniors.
“All this is done in our own time free. The only thing we get is local respect, a good profile for the club and the feel good factor, added Duncan.
“We have good sponsorship at the club but that’s from going out and getting it, the committee works hard as a group and weekly meetings help to push things forward.”
They also have senior sides in the competitive Pennine league & summer rfl league and Henderson believes the new venture with junior teams can be a success.
He said: “There aren’t many good sporting options for the kids in our area and we are offering them a great product in rugby league and for free no subs or signing on fee just come along train & play .
“By making it fun they keep coming back and each week the numbers tend to rise.”
