FA CUP: Oxhey Jets 1-0 Didcot Town

FA CUP: Oxhey Jets 1-0 Didcot Town

Jamie Bowman21 Aug 2021 - 20:17

Preliminary Round the Stopping Point for the Railwaymen as Oxhey Jets’ front man Putman struck to seal the Hertfordshire club’s progress.

A fine individual goal from Lewis Putman secured Oxhey Jets progression to the FA Cup First Qualifying Round, and once again sent Diddy to an early exit.

Putman, who proved a threat all afternoon, scored the only goal on 57 minutes. In an otherwise cagey and lifeless affair, the game had a few moments. Most notably for the visitors the best chance fell to James Glover on the edge of the area, but put his shot over.

For the hosts however they were creating chance throughout much of the contest. Bradley Sweeney and Louis Stead in the Oxhey midfield managed a handful of chances between them, nothing to trouble Leigh Bedwell, but one or two curled just past the post.

No personnel changes at the break, however the scoreline made a change of its own as eleven minutes into the second half, Putman found a pocket of space on the left and forced his way towards Bedwell, who he slotted past to make it 1-0.

Diddy spent the remainder of the half pushing for the equaliser, more so when on 68 minutes the management team made three changes in one go. Sadly, they couldn’t change the outcome and Didcot exit the FA Cup at the Preliminary Round for the third straight season.

Up next for Town, Waltham Abbey (A) on Sat 28 Aug.
