Dixonians verses Spartans Match Report

The perfect conditions for rugby near Tamworth and Dixonians turned out in force with a strong line up and men to spare. The first half displayed strong contested breakdown which Dixonians forwards won the day. The first points went to Spartans, who’s winger managed to side step his way to the line twice in the first half. After sustained pressure Dixionians pushed Spartans into their half and kept them there for the majority for the half. Through this pressure outside Spartans 22 Ronnie Barker found space and fought his way through 4of the opposition to cross the line. Richard Levett lined up for the kick and sailed it through the posts. With help from some young new recruits Dixonians found the line again in the first half through hard won rucks. Close to the end of the half Ronnie Barker again crossed the line by pure upper body strength of well placed hand offs. With 5 minutes left Richard Levett completed a fantastic drop goal from outside the 22 and it was followed quickly by a superb penalty.

The second half was marred by some interesting decisions by the referee, some of which may have been a new addition to the game of rugby. Dixonians played on with enthusiasm and honour for the game. Really to same up a good game of rugby that could have gone either way the score does not reflect the quality of play by both teams. Onward to next week boys!!
