Phoenix Seconds put up a good fight against a strong Sheffield Tigers outfit on Tuesday night at Dore Moor losing 33-12 resulting in a 60-32 aggregate score to Tigers who now face Sheffield at Abbeydale in the final in two weeks time. We wish both teams well in what should be an entertaining game.
Phoenix should now be playing in the Shield Final but Pontefract have pulled out of the competition - leaving the lads without a game but the trophy will be awarded to us by default.
It would have been a fitting season end for a young Phoenix Seconds side which lead for the last time by Mike Liddle (more to follow on him) at Tigers, have punched above their weight and experience all campaign, finishing in a respectable mid-table position in the YRFU Championship.
The team lost a few old stalwarts at the end of last season but numbers were bolstered by a few new faces including a number of last years colts - who have all stood up to the task, some making First XV appearances along the way and all have displayed maturity and grown in stature over the winter months.
So, that's it for Phoenix for the 2024-25 season but with the young lads another year older and wiser the future looks positive as we take a few weeks break before starting all over again in the summer.
