SIX OF THE BEST

On a brisk November afternoon, we welcomed the current league leaders, Dunmow Town, to Parkside after losing to them narrowly in the previous fixture. We wanted to set the record straight.

We were short of two key players for this game as Salim Nassor and Herman Mwanza missed out after picking up injuries on Tuesday night against Hoddesdon. There was better news, though, as Harry Brown and Harvey Livings returned from suspension, Martin Arnauchkov returned in goal, and Rigers Kabashi and Dan Jones made their first starts since returning to the club last week.

The game got underway at a frenetic pace, and as expected, Dunmow Town had targeted Harry Brown, knowing full well how dangerous he was. They sent him up into the air three times in the opening ten minutes, but the referee did not issue a yellow card. The afternoon's first yellow card soon followed, though, and Harry Brown received it after he gave the Dunmow Town defence a taste of their own medicine.

The opening 30 minutes was a fiercely contested game, with Cannons Wood controlling the ball and trying to work a gap in the Dunmow defence. On 32 minutes, we thought we had that opening when the Dunmow keeper saved a brilliant Harry Brown header. In the 35th minute, the game was to completely change as Dunmow's number 10 went in very hard on Khadean Campbell, leaving him needing lengthy treatment. After consultation with the linesman, the referee issued a straight red card.

With only 10 minutes of the half remaining, Dunmow needed to hold tight and regroup. Still, within a minute, it was 1-0 when brilliant play from Khadean Campbell saw his cross acrobatically finished into the bottom corner by Tyreece Robertson. Dunmow looked rattled, and you could feel it in the stands and on the pitch. They gifted Cannons Wood the second goal before they could get into the break. The Dunmow defender, whilst playing out from the back, passed it straight into Harry Brown, who left one defender on his backside before cooly finishing past the keeper. 2-0, and Dunmow had fallen apart.

As the half-time whistle blew, Dunmow looked shell-shocked, and you could see they already feared the worst. Cannons Wood are a difficult team to get the ball off at the best of times, but when you are down to 10 men, it becomes a very long afternoon.

Within 7 minutes of the restart, it was 3-0, and the game ended as a contest. An inswinging corner by Harvey Livings was met powerfully by Elliot Scott to score his second goal in two games. The players were playing with a swagger and full of confidence, but they were still entirely switched on to get the job done and inflict more pain on Dunmow Town.

The game could have become a stroll with changes made for both sides. Still, we were hungry for goals today and next up was the unlikely scorer, Shaquel Foyewa, who smashed home a clearance from the Dunmow defender, a brilliant finish by the fullback who enjoyed every minute of it. Shaquel thought he had an assist to his name five minutes later, but a linesman flag saved the Dunmow Town defender's embarrassment as he put the ball into his net.

Substitute Stanley Green was causing all sorts of problems, and he picked up our fifth of the games, his third in four games. After being put through by Reece Simpson, Stanley rounded the keeper who brought him down. The referee waited to see if there was an advantage, though, and he was wise to as Stanley got back to his feet and finished brilliantly into the bottom corner.

That was not the end of the goals, though, and there was still time for one more. Reece Simpson was the scorer, but Rigers Kabashi nearly scored one of the goals of the season, unleashing a 35-yard rocket that smashed the crossbar before falling to the grateful Reece Simpson, who made no mistake in making it 6-0

In the last 10 minutes, we continued to pile on the pressure, but if it was not for a couple of fine saves by the Dunmow keeper, we could have had a seventh. The full-time whistle blew, and what a win. We leapfrog Dunmow and move up into second place in the process.

We now have a week off as we prepare for a tough trip to Basildon Town, where we expect another challenging game. We want to thank Dunmow and wish them good luck for the remainder of the season.
