Striker leaves Champion Hill to sign for Braintree Town

Dipo Akinyemi has left Dulwich Hamlet to join fellow National League South side Braintree Town. Over two loan spells at the club, in what eventually became a permanent move, Akinyemi made 92 appearances and scored 37 goals.

The striker, affectionately known as “Big Dips”, initially joined Dulwich on loan from Stevenage in March 2016 and made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut against Enfield Town. He returned to his parent club with five goals in seven games.

His second loan move came in January 2017 and Akinyemi continued to enjoy life at Champion Hill. He bagged ten goals during that spell, including a memorable four goal haul against Barkingside in the London Senior Cup.

Akinyemi joined the club on a permanent basis on 6 March 2018 and once again, made an instant impact on his third Dulwich debut, scoring twice in a 3-1 win away at Billericay. He also went on to score the decisive penalty against Hendon in the shootout of the Playoff Final, an unforgettable moment in the club’s history.

Last year, Akinyemi finished as the club’s top goalscorer in our first ever season in the National League South. This season he spent two months on loan at Cheshunt, where he scored five goals in ten games.

Gavin Rose said, “Dipo will always be remembered fondly by all at Dulwich Hamlet for his achievements and warm smile whilst at the Club. We wish him all the best in the future.”

We would like to extend our best wishes to Dipo and thank him for his contributions to the club.
