Quarterfinal time in the Robert Dyas (Ryman League) Cup for the Alan Turvey Trophy & Hamlet head to Hornchurch

The Hamlet face a tough trip to the Division One highflying Urchins in the quarterfinal of the Alan Turvey Trophy

With a trip to Tonbridge Angels' Longmead Stadium in the semifinals of the Robert Dyas (Ryman League) Cup at stake, the draw could not have pitted together two teams mining a richer vein of form.

Chasing Maldon & Tiptree for the championship honours, the Urchins lead the Division One North form table having dropped just two points in their last eight games to keep them snapping at the heels of their Essex rivals, six points adrift in third spot. That form stretches back even further with Hornchurch having lost just once, at another of the promotion challengers Thurrock, in their last 24 fixtures in Ryman League and Cup since mid October.

Saturday sent the Urchins to struggling Great Wakering Rovers, mired deep in relegation trouble. No surprises there as Hornchurch made mincemeat of the Rovers, winning, cranking up through the gears as Leon McKenzie's second half hat trick ensured a 5-2 victory after the side's had been locked at 1-1 at the break. For the free scoring McKenzie it was record breaking FIFTH hattrick of a prolific season.

The Robert Dyas Cup has proved a happy hunting ground for the deadly striker with goals key to the Urchins progression in a competition that has seen them dispose of two Premier Division clubs. Following a comprehensive 4-1 victory at home to division rivals Haringey Borough, the Urchins upset the odds recovering from conceding a 10th minute at Enfield Town to run out convincing 4-1 winners. Both of those triumphs saw McKenzie bag hat tricks. It was a tougher trial for the Urchins in the last round of the competition with Hornchurch denying Dulwich a return trip to AFC Sudbury as Ross Wall popped up with a goal 4 minutes from time to split 2 evenly matched sides.

This evening's Ryman League Cup Quarter Final takes place at the Hornchurch Stadium, Bridge Avenue, Upminster, Essex, RM14 2LX. The ground is a short walk from Upminster Bridge on the District Line. Further directions can found here
