Shonibare’s Late Strike Secures Hamlet Win

A late Josh Shonibare strike gave Dulwich Hamlet their first win of the year, with the substitute's 89th minute goal proving the difference between the two teams.

The home side had the better of a goalless first half with 17-year-old Chelsea loanee Ted Curd making several fine saves in the Hashtag goal. Seven minutes into the second half Hamlet made the breakthrough. The returning Ryley Scott won possession 35 yards out and passed the ball wide to Anthony Jeffrey. The rapid winger showed sweet feet to make his way into the box, before being tackled. The loose ball fell to Scott who smashed it home, hard and low, from 16 yards out.

Hashtag had several chances to equalise, including a goal-line clearance from Craig Braham-Barrett, before they finally restored parity in the 77th minute. Substitute Sam Cornish’s excellent delivery was powerfully headed home at the back post by Max Cornhill.

With five minutes left Hamlet manager Hakan Hayrettin made an attacking change, bringing on the forward Shonibare, for a defensive midfielder and it paid dividends. With a minute to go, Luke Wanadio’s outside of the foot cross was controlled by Shonibare near the penalty spot, he spun and hit a low hard shot. Curd got a hand to it but couldn’t stop it from crossing the line and Hamlet held on to secure all three points in front of a crowd of 3,334.
