Goals from James Fairley and Luke Pearn helped the Colliers to the points, with Will Shaw pulling one back for Consett.
Both sides had a player sent off with Kieran Alpin sent off in a straight red for Consett, while Ryan Taylor was dismissed for the Green Army with two yellows.
Upon kick-off, the Colliers started well. The majority of the possession was green, and some nice football was being played.
With the first real chance, the Colliers took advantage of their positive start by taking the lead. Andrew Nelson weighted a superb ball over the top to find Fairley who brought it down well. The Consett goalkeeper had committed to coming out but was taken out of the game by Fairley’s first touch, and he finished it nicely to give Easington the lead.
Four minutes later, the Consett goalkeeper was booked for handling outside of his penalty area, and he needed his defence to crucially block a couple of efforts from the resulting free-kick.
The Colliers were in control, and Consett were limited to very few chances.
Following a quiet spell, Pearn went close in the 37th minute. The ball was worked out to Pearny on the right who cut in and got a shot away, but the goalkeeper did well to save.
Shortly before the break, the Colliers doubled their lead. A good passing move was eventually played across to Pearn inside the penalty area, and his confident finish doubled Easington’s lead.
With the first real chance of the second half, Consett halved the deficit. It was in the 53rd minute when Shaw’s low strike from the edge of the penalty area found the bottom corner.
Three minutes later, Consett were reduced to 10 men. Alpin was initially booked, but he was then shown a straight red for his use of language.
On the hour mark, the Colliers should have regained their lead. Brad Hird beat the offside trap by staying in his own half, and he charged down on goal before his shot was very well saved by James Anderson.
Although they were down to 10, Consett were now looking more dangerous than they had for the previous hour. The Colliers was forced into good defending on numerous occasions, especially with a number of crosses and corners being lifted into dangerous areas.
Easington’s task was made to be that bit more difficult when Taylor was sent off for a second yellow, but a resilient Colliers saw the game out well to book their spot in the quarter-finals.
