Newport entertained their landlords at Beatrice Avenue for this Boxing Day Derby and with a bumper crowd of 523 in attendance and perfect conditions , we were set for, hopefully a classic .

Vics started the brighter of the two sides and were ahead on 8 minutes, Jordan Chapman won the ball in midfield, played in Jez Conway and his chipped pass was perfect for JI NASH who finished in style 0-1.

In the 19th minute Nash should have doubled Vics lead. Clean through on goal his effort was saved by Pitman , the save deflecting onto Macaulay Waterson, that sailed inches wide.

Shots from Harry Taylor and Jez Conway failed to test Pitman in the port goal. Newport’s first effort resulted in a goal in the 34th minute, a corner from Joe Butcher wasn’t dealt with and ended up going in off of Vic’s defender LIAM NEWBOLD For the equaliser. 1-1

A great effort from Joe Craig just sailed over in the 39th minute, but right on half time JOE CRAIG turned beautifully in the box and hit an inch perfect effort into the corner. 2-1.

HALF TIME 2-1

The second half took forever to get going, Vis huffed and puffed with half chances falling to Marsek and Conway.

Newport increased their lead on 70 minutes, again a corner that was not cleared and the ball fell perfectly for JORDAN BROWN to toe poke home. 3-1.

Another Newport corner in the 82nd minute found HARRY CATANIA all alone in the box and his header somehow crept over the line 4-1

On a day of expectation, reality hit hard. Newport are in a false position in the league, we all know that. Today missed early chances probably cost us . We stand up , dust ourselves down and prove we are better on Saturday when we host Downton. UTV
