Match Report by Nick Mattocks
After their defeat to High Park last Saturday the Vics welcomed Newchurch to Beatrice Avenue and knew that anything but a win was needed to keep their faint hopes of promotion alive and in 16 crazy first half minutes five goals had hit the back of the respective teams' nets.
The Vics came out of the blocks flying and within two minutes a lovely through ball from Aidan White found Billy Haylor, who had time to control, then smash the ball home past Newchurch keeper Jason Brook.
Two minutes later Brandon Tuckey was upended in the Newchurch area by their captain James Morris, who also got booked for the challenge, and up stepped Aidan Sheerin to send the keeper the wrong way with his spot kick.
The third followed shortly after when a Haylor corner found the head of Kyle Kilroy to power home and after 13 mins it was four, when, after some neat passing build up Tuckey found himself unmarked in the area to slot home.
Three mins later Newchurch had a free kick outside of the area taken by Rob Kirby which was fumbled by Ben Woodford in the Vics goal and fell neatly at the feet of Pat O'Meara to stab home.
Things calmed a bit after that and it wasn't until the 40th min when a superb cross from Shay Phillipson reached Haylor who fired an unstoppable volley past the bemused Brook.
HT 5-1
Would the second half live up to the first? Er, No would be the simple answer. It was a very stop/start half with niggly tackles and the flow of the game not as fluent as before.
Newchurch to their credit battled for every ball and were asking questions of the Vics defence and in the 59th min Ethan Brierly wriggled through a couple of challenges to slot home to give his side a glimpse of a comeback.
In the 64th min Newchurch's Kirby found his name going into referee Andy Dorning's notebook, and, with three minutes of normal time left found himself going for an early shower after a rash challenge left Dorning with no option but to produce another yellow and then the red card.
FT 5-2
