A comprehensive performance from East Preston blew AFC Varndeanians away at the Withdean Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The young EP side took the home side apart with some great football and could easily have been 3-0 up before the first goal as Dan Huet and Jared Rance, twice, could have scored in the first three minutes. The opening goal came after 4 mins when Josh Etherington played a quick ball into Huet whose first time pass inside to Rance who netted from 8 yards.
EP then had another two excellent chances before 10 mins was on the clock with Jack Barnes having two great chances one he shot wide and the other when the keeper saved with his legs.
Dom Taylor had to come off after 10 mins with a hip injury and he was replaced by Conor Bull. Shortly after Barnes took a corner and Etherington headed wide when perhaps he should have done better.
The second goal for EP came after 19 mins when Rance put Barnes in and his cool side foot finish doubled the lead.
EP keeper Chris Cook made and excellent one on one save after 22 mins when the home sides Matt Waterman was put through.
The third EP goal came after40 mins when from a Barnes cross the ball fell to Tom Lyne and he hit a crisp shot which went in off the post.
Hayden Hunter scored the fourth goal after 44 mins when Rance passed the ball wide to Hunter and he cut in and hit a great shot which the goalkeeper managed to get a hand to but was not able to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.
The home sides defender Ryan Collins was sent off in time added on in the first half when he headbutted Rance and the referee had no option but to send Collins off reducing the home side to 10 men.
Half Time: 4-0
Another great flowing move from EP resulted in the fifth goal after 49 mins when Huet finished off a fine move involving Ryan Hallett and Rance.
The home side pulled a goal back on 60 mins when some sloppy defending resulted in Henry Magee heading in at the far post.
EP’s sixth goal came after 71 mins when Huet put Bull away on the right and his great cross saw an excellent finish by Dylan Barnes. The final goal came 10 mins later when George Laughlin put a great ball through to Bull who put in another fine cross for Jack Barnes to score his second and the teams seventh.
Manager Bob Paine said ‘ Today we saw how good these young players are with some excellent football and great finishing. It was a pleasure to watch the team playing with great quality and clinical finishing. Given the injuries we still have to still be able to put such a good side as we did today speaks volumes for the great young players we have at this football club’.
