Eastwood claims their first victory of the season tightly beating Bingham by 2 wickets. Sam Humphries & Paul Summers starring with the ball as the visitors move out of the relegation zone.

Bingham won the toss and elected to bat first in the breezy conditions at Butt Field. Paul Summers & Jack Wyer opened the bowling for Eastwood but both seamers were unable to make a quick breakthrough as Bingham steadily went by their business. However, Summers continued his rich vein of form claiming Bingham’s first wicket, when Brooks was caught at mid-off by Humphries. A resurgent Summers went onto claim a further 3 wickets in consecutive overs leaving the hosts in a precarious position heading into drinks. Shaun Stocks shortly claimed the fifth wicket after drinks when Hartland top-edged a certain wide ball delivery into the reliable hands of Mark Stocks. Bingham remained resilient and battled on punishing any sloppiness from the visitors until Sam Humphries was introduced to the bowling attack. The youngster showing exactly why he’s Division C leading wicket-taker steamrolling through Bingham’s middle order and tail claiming another five-wicket haul finishing 5-23 from 11.4 overs. Humphries taking his tally to 15 for the season in just 4 games averaging a wicket remarkably every 6 runs. Bingham was bowled out for 163 and Eastwood had their first victory of the season in sight.

Mark Stocks & Steve Dockrell opened the batting and Docky was in no mood for Bingham’s seamers, quickly firing Eastwood into a commanding chase. Stocks ultimately struggled and was bowled, Ryan Buckley joined Docky at the crease but soon followed also being bowled. Docky’s quickfire cameo came to an abrupt end when Spencer struck again taking his and Bingham’s 3rd wicket leaving Eastwood in trouble. The hosts looked to crank up the pressure on new batsmen Shaun Stocks and Eddie Wright, but the duo consolidated plugging away until Wright was disappointingly caught on the boundary. Sam Humphries was the next man into bat but he was unable to follow-up on his bowling exploits, as he quickly departed being stumped for 9 with Eastwood needing over 50 to win with 5 wickets in-hand. The visitors looked in real danger and it appeared the tide was swinging in Bingham’s favor until Danny Roberts stepped in. The wicket-keeper elegantly notching a match-winning 38 over the remaining course of the innings. Stocks and Carlin fell victim to late wickets but Eastwood tightly got over the line and secured their first victory of the 2018 season.

Eastwood’s win moves them out of the relegation zone as they look to embark upon heading further up the league when they host Gotham Village at The Breach on Saturday.
