A convincing start from EHU, found DU remaining in their own half of the pitch for a vast
majority of the first half, with little to offer against the pressure applied to
them. However, EHU appeared slightly nervous in their attacking phases, with the
worse number of handling errors seen so far this season, against what was on
paper, the weakest opposition to date.
EHU continued to pressurise DU, but also continued to display handling errors
and a degree of nervousness at the breakdown. EHU were clearly aware of this
and a degree of frustration crept into their game. Eventually, EHU crossed the
try line in quick succession, with Safina Clay and Sara Baker respectively, both
tries converted by Sarah Methven. EHU 14 : DU 0.
Soon after this score line, DU requested the game to go to uncontested scrums,
due to an injury and lack of replacement front row. EHU dominated the scrum and
going to uncontested scrums must have been a relief to DU. It also altered the
game,in that, the dominance of EHU at this platform, was reduced!
Interplay from both the backs and forwards within EHU team, resulted in three
further tries from Meg Willoughby, Safina Clay try and Rachel Porter, with one conversion from these by Charlotte Smith.
Despite one way traffic from EHU, DU continued to offer minimal resistance. At
half time, the score was: EHU 31 : DU 0.
The second half started in much the same way as the first, with dominance from
EHU and a more settled approach and far fewer handling errors.
DU valiantly defended against a clearly stronger opposition, even with
uncontested scrums. Three further tries were scored by Abby Hallam Mairead Quinn and Alana Sugden .
DU had marked advantage playing for them throughout the second half and a degree
of frustration began creeping back into EHU's game. EHU had so much more in the
tank and could have extended the score line, but failed to consolidate.
Full time score, EHU 41 : DU 0.
