Hear from some of our newest Thistles about their experiences

On the pitch we celebrate the smallest of victories as well as the big and whilst we are competitive the focus is still on playing as a team and having a great time

Al (43)

I loved lacrosse when I was at school / Uni and then in my early working life. I'd played to a reasonable standard, but hadn't picked up a lacrosse stick for 18 years until this year. I was then asked to play in a Thistle match by a friend as she knew I'd played. I nervously agreed, worried that I didn't know anyone, had an ancient stick (one of the first plastic ones!) etc. but it was the kick start I needed. I loved being out on the pitch again (despite so many rule and equipment changes!) and being part of the team.

Thistle couldn't have been more welcoming and inclusive. They have real energy and such a positive 'can do' attitude. I'm 43 and they were still happy for me to join up - that's half the fun, it's such a mixed age group from 14 or so right up to 50+. So encouraging and supportive, even if you think you are not very good, the team rally round and support you, teach you, guide you. I'm looking forward to the 2019/2020 season!

Katie (15)

I initially joined Thistle because of the summer sessions as they are a great and fun way of keeping up lacrosse skills over the holidays. The sessions were brilliant and everyone was very nice and inclusive which is one of the reasons I went on to join the club for the 2018/19 season.

It has been a brilliant experience - on pitch we celebrate the smallest of victories as well as the big and whilst we are competitive the focus is still on playing as a team and having a great time. I was really pleased to be included in all of the social events including the Christmas party. The training sessions are also great because there are so many talented players to learn from. Thistle is brilliant and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

As someone who has been playing lacrosse for a number of years through School and University, I was keen when I moved to Edinburgh to get involved with a club so that I could play again. I found out about Thistle through some of my friends who used to / currently play for the club. After contacting the club, I was immediately given all the information I needed to head to my first training session. The team was been so welcoming even when I joined half way through the season!

I found it was so easy to keep up to date with everything that was going on in the club through social media including training sessions, how to sign up to matches and details on the upcoming fixtures. I am so glad I joined Thistle, it was a great way keep up and learn new skills, and meet new people. The club has a whole range of ages and abilities, from our juniors to students/young professionals and senior players who bring so much experience to the team.

Thinking about joining? You can come along to any of our training sessions for free and give it a go - find out more here
You also don't need to have any previous experience of playing lacrosse - we welcome beginners, so our coaches will help to teach you the basics and get you up to speed!
