After several months of interviews with many highly qualified and experiences coaches Eltham Rugby is pleased to advise that David Southwood has been appointed as the Senior Coach for 2015 and beyond.
David is currently coaching in the UK and will be returning to Eltham mid - January to continue with pre-season preparations.
David brings a solid coaching ethos to the club along with many years coaching experience. He has coached many Junior teams at Eltham as well as coaching Victorian representative sides before departing for the UK where he is coaching a high level of both Schoolboy and Senior Rugby.
Making the announcement last night, Eltham RUFC’s Director of Rugby, Andrew Shaw said, “I believe that this is a big piece of the puzzle that has now been filled to strengthen our already promising coaching staff we have at Eltham”.
“2015 will be an exciting year for our club and I look forward to building on the successes of last season”, said Shaw. This appointment heralds a new period for Eltham Rugby following on from a fantastic 2014 season in which the A grade team won the Grand Final after an undefeated run of 17 matches, the B Grade made a the Preliminary Final, the Under 16 team won Minor Premiers and Runners up and the Un-der 12 team made the semi finals.
Club President Tim Adams observed “It is fantastic to see a young man who started as a junior player at our club grow through the ranks to play in the senior team, representing Victoria in overseas tours. At the same time he coached a range of junior teams with great success building his skills and qualifications in the sport. He has built on this further with his overseas coaching experience and now returns to Aus-tralia to take up this new role at Eltham. We couldn't be prouder.
