The TBs ventured into the NorthEast to take on Durham CC and Bates Village (a team from Northumberland) in a triangular tournament.
1st game: TBs 129-1 v Durham 86-5
Playing on the Durham CC nursery ground the TBs took on Durham in the first game and batted calmly and steadily to set up a par score. Durham launched a spirited response but tight bowling and fielding by the TBs kept Durham at bay, enabling the TBs to win quite easily.
2nd game: TBs 99-6 v Bates Village 51-7
Bates Village were the TBs next opponent and again the TBs batted first. This time, however, the TBs struggled with the slow, really really slow (!) bowling and were unable to score freely.
The TBs usual tight bowling and fielding put the pressure on Bates Village who were unable to break the shackles, meaning the TBs were now in the final.
Final: TBs 151-1 v Durham 124-5
After an outstanding lunch in one of the Durham CC suites overlooking the county ground, the TBs had a break and watched Durham play Bates Village to determine who would play the TBs in the final. An exciting tight game with a controversial ending meant that we would play Durham in the final.
In the final the TBs batted beautifully and put up a really imposing score. A much stronger Durham side then attacked the TBs bowling with Northern vigour and the TBs normally tight bowling went astray. It looked as if the outstanding Durham batting would prevail but the TBs held their nerve at the end to win. It was much closer then the scorecard suggests.
Special thanks to
Tim, Jim, and Kevin from Wallington CC who joined the TBs ranks for the day and played a key part in the victories.
Both Durham and Bates Village for the outstanding hospitality shown to the TBs.
Durham CC for allowing us to use their facilties.
And finally to all the TB players who participated: Ian, Roger, Barret, Paul, Richard, Ilyas, Steve and Dave Lazell.
