Steady rain ruined what was set to be an interesting clash against a strong-looking Pembury side at Eridge Park.
With the black clouds rolling in and spots of rain already in the air, Luke agreed a 30-over game and Eridge lost the toss and were inserted.
Chief Tea maker David Ellis was sent out to open alongside club stalwart Mick Pooley and the pair accumulated steadily against some tidy bowling from Hussain and Baretto with both bowlers beating the beat on occasion.
The first stoppage came after 6 overs with Eridge on 40/0 and after the rain eased, and a break long enough for all to enjoy a cuppa, we tried again but this time only a further 9 balls were possible before the rain got heavier and this time it was terminal.
Poo hit four boundaries in his 25, with Dave unbeaten on 14 - twice denied a boundary by the lush wet grass up the hill.
The Ellis tea was then devoured with the homemade chocolate and lemon drizzle cakes going down very well on top of his New York Deli sarnies - an effort worthy of a top 3 entry in the Great Eridge Bake Off 2023.
A special mention to Pembury today for making the best of a bad situation and fielding in steady drizzle for over half an hour and then sticking around for a beer afterwards. We look forward to the return fixture in better weather next season.
