History

Founded in 1965 as Ivy Bush FC, the early days were very successful for the club. They succeeded in winning several cups and the Aberdare Valley League in 1968-69. The club started to grow in the 1970's with the formation of junior teams. In 1976 it was decided to change the name of the club to FC Cwmaman. After this name change the club really started to take off with the building of new facilities on the site of the old colliery and club started to reap the benefits with a period of success. After winning the Aberdare League three years in succession they applied to enter the South Wales Amateur League only to be turned down on a number of occasions. This however all changed in 1983 when the club was finally admitted to the Second Division of the Amateur League. The season of 1984/85 saw the club win the Second Division of the league and promotion to the First Division, only to be relegated the following season. In 1999 it was time for a change of name again to secure the future of football in Cwmaman. It was decided that the Club was to move to a new base, the Cwmaman Public Hall and Institute and was duly renamed Cwmaman Institute FC.

In the 2006 – 2007 Season the Club won the South Wales Amateur League and the resulting play-off against Sully Sports to gain promotion to the Welsh League 3rd Division finishing in a creditable 5th place in the first season.

2010 - 2011 again saw the Club have one of its most successful seasons. The First Team gaining promotion to the 1st Division, their 3rd promotion in 5 years, sadly only to be relegated in the 2011/2012 season.

Unfortunately the 2012/2013 saw the First Team relegated for a successive season without winning a League game. Which left it to our Aberdare League Senior and Under 16 Teams to gain any glory for the Club. The 2013/2014 season saw the Club relegated for a third successive season, this time out of the Welsh League and into the South Wales FA Senior League.

Unfortunately the Senior Team losing their Welsh League status, meant the Youth Team also lost their status, with the result the Youth Players that have for so long been its backbone left the Club for other Teams.

For the 2014/2015 season the Club will run Senior Teams in the Senior League, Division 1 and the Aberdare League, Division 2. An Under 16 Team and a Mini-Football both in the Aberdare League.

Cwmaman Institute FC are always striving for success both on and off the football field, and would like to say thank you to all the players and members that have helped the club live up to its motto.
"Egni a Lwydd - Effort will succeed"
