Mr Ken Cousins
1931-2014
It is with great sadness I report the passing of Mr Ken Cousins aged 83. Ken was a stalwart of Cwmaman Institute Football Club for 20 years, only recently over the last couple of years, ill health stopping him from supporting his club.
Ken joined the club when he was forced to retire due to poor health, he soon became very popular amongst members of the club and started to get involved. The younger players were very fond of Ken and he soon built a rapport with them which helped to create a great atmosphere in the club after games. His love of Swansea City was the brunt of many jokes at this time and he became known as the “Swansea Jack”.
At home games Ken would make the Tea before and during games and his cuppa soon became known as the best in the league. Players, supporters and officials would order their cuppa as soon as they got to our ground knowing they were guaranteed a good brew.
Ken loved his Saturdays and for away games we would jump into the car and off we would go to whatever ground we were playing at. Once again his popularity went before him and on arrival at our destination he would be welcomed with a cuppa, but it was agreed not as good as Ken’s. He was a Committee member and actively involved in the running of the club, he and his beloved wife Thelma, would support all the club functions, and the night he was voted Clubman of the Year, brought the biggest cheer at our Presentation night that year!
His love for the football club never waived and he will be sadly missed not only for his tea but his character and personality at grounds all over South Wales.
God bless you Ken.
