Millers opening day delight...

Feckenham claimed victory in their first game back in the Midland Football League on Saturday afternoon, overcoming a youthful Gornal side 3-1.

The Millers would have to recover from an early setback however, as Gornal who started the brighter of the two sides took a deserved lead on 13 minutes, albeit under controversial circumstances. A long ball over the back of the Millers backline saw Gornal's striker appear to shove Kevin Ingram in the back, before rounding the stricken defender and slotting the ball underneath Watson for the opener.

The Millers were struggling to gain any real momentum with the ball, and were tested at the back by a very pacey and well-drilled opponent.

To their credit, Feckenham did recover well from the early goal and started to string together some nice passages of play, with either the final ball or final shot eluding them.

The game looking to be heading into Half Time with the Millers behind, however the final Corner Kick of the half would find the flying head of debutant Josh Bowen, with his powerful header crashing in off the underside of the crossbar for a deserved equaliser.

HT: 1-1

The Millers would grasp the mantle in the 2nd 45, and take the lead just three minutes in, when that man Bowen found time and space in the area to slot low into the corner after a goalmouth scramble which saw Gornal fail to clear their lines.

Feckenham would continue to dominate much of the possession, but that was to take nothing away from Gornal who were still causing problems on the counter attack which kept the Millers back line on their toes.

The final nail would come 5 minutes before the end of the game, when a super run and cross from another debutant Brooklyn Smith, signed from Redditch Borough, would find the diving head of last seasons top scorer Will Skelton, planting his effort low into the corner to finish the match.

The Millers next game will be against Balsall & Berkswell this Saturday, again at Mill Lane.
