Felthorpe FC kick-started their pre-season against Sprowston United on Sunday 2nd June.
Sprowston UTD are a newly formed side in the Norwich & District Sunday League for the 2019/2020 season, and the games between FFC and them during the league campaign will definitely be one to watch!
FFC started the game well, winning a corner inside the first two minutes. The corner was well defended by Sprowston, who quickly went on the counter attack down the left flank. Only a good challenge from Elliot Moon stopped the Sprowston forward from getting a shot off on goal.
Sprowston began to grow into the game, breaking quickly again in the 22nd minute. FFC failed to capitalise on a free kick around 20 yards from goal. The ball went straight into the goalkeepers hands and, again, some good defending by the two FFC centre halves stopped the forward in his tracks.
FFC went 1-0 up in the 23rd minute. A long ball from the midfield broke nicely to Harry Stables, who played a well weighted pass into the box, which was converted by Ryan Perring.
Some great defending by Moon again in the 27th minute stopped a good opportunity for Sprowston to equalise.
Harry Stables continued to cause issues for the Sprowston defence. Another fantastic run in the 35th minute allowed him to get a shot off on goal, which was blocked well by the Sprowston goalkeeper.
HALF TIME- 1-0 Felthorpe
FFC started the second half well, with a golden opportunity in the 47th minute. Harry Stables delivered another fantastic ball into the box, only for the George Baker to send the ball flying over the cross bar eight yards out. Later, Baker tried to make amends for his early mistake with a good break just before the 60 minute mark. He was stopped in his tracks however, when the Sprowston linesman raised his flag for offside.
Sprowston equalised in the 61st minute. FFC failed to deal with a corner deep into the box, allowing the Sprowston centre forward to head it home past Atkins. 1-1.
Sprowston took the lead less than eight minutes later. Again FFC failed to deal with a corner into the box, which was again headed home by the Sprowston forward. Any ideas on what we'll be addressing in the next training session? 1-2 Sprowston.
Sprowston then extended their lead in the 74th minute. FFC were penalised when the ball struck the hand off Graeme Lockwood in the box. Penalty awarded by the referee. The strike sent Atkins the wrong way, as Sprowston increased the scoreline to 1-3.
FFC failed to mount a serious challenge to get back into the game in the last fifteen minutes, as the team ran out of steam in the warm weather. Still a lot of positives to take from the friendly, despite the scoreline.
FINAL SCORE Felthorpe 1-3 Sprowston.
