They say that football is a game of two halves; well it certainly was at Wilks Park last Thursday when the Youth Team played AFC Hayes in their first league match of the season.
Hayes started very strong, however, the young Heathens soon took control of the match when Jack Stillman put a shot just wide in the11th minute. They continued to attack strongly and on thirty minutes Nathan Green shot from just inside the Hayes penalty area, the ball was deflected by Dylan Fbenco of Hayes sending his keeper the wrong way and Flackwell took a deserving lead. They continued to press Hayes for the rest of the half but for some good keeping from Frankie Atwell they should have increased their lead.
In the second half we went off the boil with Hayes taking control of the match. Daniel Gibson, keeping goal for Flackwell for the first time this season, made a number of great saves. In the 51st minute we had a free kick from just inside the Hayes half and Jack Stillman took the kick and scored with a fine shot to the top left hand corner, the keeper having no chance to stop it. This only made Hayes push harder and they scored from a corner in the 78th minute when the ball was deflected into goal from a Flackwell player. With the score at 2-1 Hayes continued to attack and equalized on 90 minutes with a hard low shot that Daniel managed to get a hand to only, to push the ball onto his post and deflect into goal, the final score was 2 – 2.
Simon the manager was very disappointed with the second half performance after the lads had gained a two goal advantage only to give this away with some negative play in the latter stages of the match.
Our next match, we are away to Burnham FC at The Gore on Wednesday 25th September, KO has yet to be confirmed.
