FLIMBY FAIL TO PROGRESS TO SEMI FINAL

FLIMBY FAIL TO PROGRESS TO SEMI FINAL

Lorraine Degraff22 Jul 2016 - 09:20

Flimby came off second best in a game where the scoreline doesn’t justify the game.

As what has become a concerning factor over recent weeks, players were “unavailable” for this fixture and the coaches had to reshuffle the whole back line as no regular wingers, centres or fullback were available, so credit must be given to the young lads who stepped up and turned out for the Vikings in this game.

Straight from the kick off Aspatria applied pressure to the Flimby line and it was on 7 minutes when they finally managed their first try through Luke Johnston scoring out wide.

On 13 minutes Flimby were temprarily reduced to 12 men when following a try by Aspatria, Andrew Prest was a little “vocal” in explaining to the referee why the try should not have been awarded and was immediately despatched to the sin bin for 10 minutes to cool down. This seemed to spur Flimby and a nice inside ball from Lewis crellin found Prop Luke Baker who strolled over the line for Flimby’s first score of the night, Darren Pape Converted and it was 10-6 in Aspatria’s favour.

Aspatria hit right back scoring two more converted tries before the break to give a half time score of Aspatria 22 Flimby 6.
In the second half Aspatria scored a further 7 tries to Flimby’s 1.

With the scoreline at 42 -6 tensions boiled over resulting in a slight fracas involving Aspatrias Brad Bouch and Ricky Morrison, however this was soon extinguished and the game continued. however shortly after Flimby's hard working prop Ryan Williams was helped from the field due to a knee injury sustained during a tackle.

On 73 minutes Luke Baker scored his second of the evening by burrowing under the Aspatria defenders out wide.
On 78 minutes Darren Pape found himself despatched to the sin bin for dissent.

On 80 minutes and with a scoreline of 48-10, the biggest cheer of the evening went up when the referee took a fall and ended up on his backside, and many people thought the game was over, however the game continued for a further 9 minutes during which time Aspatria scored two further converted tries on 87 and 89 minutes to give a final score of Aspatria 60 Flimby 10.

After starting the season so well, and going 7 league matches unbeaten, and beating 2 CML teams it is really sad to see the recent demise of the clubs playing fortunes, the lads need to rally round and finish the season strongly.
